Visibility greatly reduced for drivers in the city as fire service takes advantage of fine weather on Saturday before forecast rain on Sunday

Hazard reduction burns in the Blue Mountains, coupled with low overnight temperatures, have left Sydney shrouded in smoke on Saturday morning.

Forty controlled hazard reduction burns are scheduled for the next week across rural New South Wales.

The smoke has settled due to lower temp[erature]s overnight. Should clear throughout the morning, the NSW Rural Fire Service said on Twitter.

The fire service is taking advantage of fine weather on Saturday before forecast rain on Sunday.

The smoke settled over the west of the city on Friday night, and has drifted coastward over the course of the day.

In the city centre and north shore, visibility has been significantly reduced for drivers.
