The nation fell in love with Officer Ryan Holets earlier this year when President Trump recognized the hero father of four in his State of the Union Address.
“Last year, Ryan was on duty when he saw a pregnant, homeless woman preparing to inject heroin,” Trump shared, as all eyes turned to the Holets standing beside First Lady Melania. “When Ryan told her she was going to harm her unborn child, she began to weep. She told him she didn’t know where to turn, but badly wanted a safe home for her baby.”
“You’re going to kill your baby,” the concerned officer warned, who then received an immediate revelation from God.
“In that moment, Ryan said he felt God speak to him: ‘You will do it — because you can.’ He heard those words,’” Trump announced to the American people. “He went home to tell his wife Rebecca. In an instant, she agreed to adopt. The Holets named their new daughter Hope.”
…A name certainly appropriate for a baby rescued from such dire circumstances, with the hope of a new life.
“To me, the most important thing is that she has a family who loves her, and she’s gonna grow up in an entirely different environment than she could have,” says Ryan. “And that’s the most important. This will all fade away.”
The Albuquerque cop could have taken the woman (Crystal) and her partner (Tom) to jail for shooting up, but instead, the dad of four decided to not only adopt their child but also help them get clean and back on their feet.
Ryan recently shared an extremely encouraging update, reporting on Crystal and Tom’s major progress over the last several months.
“Tom has graduated from the program last [weekend],” he wrote. “He is temporarily staying on property doing work for the rehab facility. Crystal is preparing for her graduation and looking into which halfway house she will be staying at after. They are fast approaching 90 days sober!”
The kind-hearted officer has started a GoFundMe page to raise money for the couples’ housing that is now only a few hundred dollars short of achieving its $25,000 goal.
“Looking at the latest photos of Tom and Crystal brings me back,” Ryan added in a separate post. “So amazed at the challenges they have overcome to get where they are. Thank you to everyone who has helped! We could never have done this alone.”
